Equipment

  • Cast Iron Pan

Ingredients

Chocolate Chip Batter

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter softened
  • ½ cup dark brown sugar
  • ¾ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • teaspoon salt
  • cup semisweet chocolate chips

Brownie Batter

  • ½ tablespoon unsalted butter melted
  • cup white granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ egg
  • ¼ cup cocoa powder
  • teaspoon baking powder
  • teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon water

Toppings

  • Vanilla Ice Cream
  • Extra chocolate chips

Instructions

Preheat the Oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Make the Chocolate Chip Batter:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the softened butter and brown sugar. Mix until smooth.
  • Add the vanilla extract and egg, and mix again until combined.
  • Stir in the flour and salt until a thick dough forms.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips and set the batter aside.

Make the Brownie Batter:

  • In a smaller bowl, mix together the melted butter and sugar until combined.
  • Add the egg and vanilla extract, whisking until smooth.
  • Add the cocoa powder, baking powder, salt, and flour. Mix until the batter thickens.
  • Stir in the vegetable oil and water to thin out the brownie batter slightly, ensuring there are no lumps.

Assemble the Skillet:

  • Take a cast iron skillet and drop large spoonfuls of the chocolate chip batter around the bottom.
  • Fill the spaces between the chocolate chip batter with the brownie batter. Alternate between both batters until the skillet is filled.

Bake:

  • Bake in the oven for 17–20 minutes, or until the chocolate chip batter is golden brown. Be careful not to overbake, as the brownie batter may become tough.

Serve:

  • Let the skillet cool for a few minutes.
  • Top with vanilla ice cream and extra chocolate chips.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy!
