    Substitutions

    • Extra firm tofu - Use tempeh, seitan, or chickpeas (for a soy-free option) if tofu is unavailable.
    • Snow peas - Swap snow peas with sugar snap peas or green beans.
    • Hoisin sauce - You may use a mixture of teriyaki sauce or a mix of soy sauce, peanut butter, and maple syrup instead of hoisin sauce.

    Recipe Variations

    • Spicy Sichuan-Style – Add chili garlic sauce and crushed Sichuan peppercorns for a fiery kick, increase the red pepper flakes, and swap hoisin sauce for doubanjiang (fermented chili bean paste).
    • Sweet & Tangy Teriyaki – Stir in teriyaki sauce and a splash of pineapple juice for a balanced sweet-tangy flavor. Reduce the brown sugar, swap rice vinegar for apple cider vinegar, and sprinkle sesame seeds before serving with rice.

    • Vegetable options: Feel free to add your preferred veggies, like broccoli or asparagus.
    • Non-vegetarian options: Use fried meat cutlets of your choice, like chicken or beef.

    Storage

    • Refrigerator: Store the stir-fried snow peas in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
    • Freezer: Freeze in a sealed container for up to 1 month. For best texture, freeze the sauce separately and stir-fry fresh tofu and vegetables when reheating.

How do you fry tofu without sticking?

Make sure that the pan is hot enough and the tofu doesn't have too much moisture in it.

How do you thicken stir-fry sauce?

By mixing well the same amount of cornstarch and water in a cup, and tossing the mixture into the stir fry just when it's almost done. You may also combine equal parts of flour and cold water, then mix it until it's smooth and stir it into the sauce.

Do you cut snow peas for stir-fry?

You may either cook the snow peas directly or thinly slice them lengthways or halve diagonally, if desired.
