What is a Lychee Smoothie Bowl?
Lychee Smoothie Bowl is a creamy, refreshing blend of tropical fruits, oats, and plant-based milk, served with fruit toppings. While not a traditional Filipino dish, it features lychee, a fruit commonly used in Filipino desserts.
A unique ingredient in this recipe is matcha powder, which adds an earthy contrast to the sweetness of the fruits. Though matcha is not traditionally Filipino, it is becoming more popular in modern Filipino desserts and drinks.
When Is This Dish Typically Enjoyed?
This Lychee juice is typically enjoyed as a refreshing breakfast, snack, or light meal, especially during hot weather. It’s perfect for summer when tropical fruits like lychee, watermelon, and cantaloupe are in season.
While this dish is not tied to any Filipino holiday, it fits well with warm-weather celebrations such as beach outings, family picnics, and summer gatherings. It can also be a great option for those observing a healthy diet after festive feasts like Christmas, New Year, or fiestas when lighter, fruit-based meals are preferred.
Health Benefits of Lychee
- Rich in Vitamin C – Supports a strong immune system and helps with collagen production for healthy skin.
- Hydrating and Refreshing – Contains high water content, keeping you hydrated, especially in hot weather.
- Good for Digestion – Provides dietary fiber, which aids digestion and prevents constipation.
- Antioxidant-Rich – Packed with polyphenols and flavonoids that help protect against cell damage.
- Supports Heart Health – Contains potassium, which helps regulate blood pressure and support heart function.
Substitutions
- Old-Fashioned Rolled Oats - Quick oats (for a smoother texture) or chia seeds (for extra fiber and omega-3s)
- Almond Milk - Coconut milk (for a richer, tropical flavor) or soy milk (for a neutral, protein-rich option)
- Matcha Powder - Spirulina powder (for a superfood boost) or moringa powder (for an earthy, nutrient-dense alternative)
- Maple Syrup - Agave syrup (for a light, neutral sweetness) or coconut nectar (for a caramel-like depth)

Variations
- Tropical – Features coconut milk, pineapple, and passion fruit for a refreshing tropical twist.
- Berry – Combines mixed berries, granola, and vanilla for a sweet and tangy flavor.
- Green Superfood – Includes spinach, matcha, and avocado for a nutrient-packed, creamy bowl.
- Chocolate – Blends lychee with cocoa powder and dark chocolate for a rich, indulgent taste.
- Protein-Packed – Adds protein powder, hemp seeds, and nut butter for a filling and energizing meal.
Storage
- Best served fresh, but you can store leftover smoothies in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 day. Stir before serving.
- Freeze an extra smoothie in a popsicle mold for a refreshing frozen treat later!

In a food processor or blender, combine the soaked oats-almond milk mixture, frozen banana, cantaloupe, lychee, and matcha powder. Blend until smooth and creamy, like ice cream.

Divide the smoothie mixture into two bowls.

Top each bowl with frozen blueberries, frozen watermelon, and chopped lychee. Drizzle with maple syrup and serve immediately!

Enjoy a healthy and delicious smoothie bowl!
Hint: Adjust sweetness by adding more maple syrup or a drizzle of honey.
⭐ Top Tip
Use a high-speed blender to ensure a smooth, creamy consistency. For extra tropical flavor, swap cantaloupe with mango or papaya. Pair with coconut flakes or shredded coconut for a delicious twist.
For a creamier texture, use frozen almond milk cubes instead of liquid almond milk, and for added crunch, sprinkle granola, nuts, or chia seeds on top before serving.
