    Health Benefits of Pineapple

    • Pineapples are loaded with vitamins A, K, calcium, phosphorus, and zinc.
    • They are rich in disease-fighting antioxidants, which help the immune system.
    • Great aid in digestion because it contains bromelain, a digestive enzyme.
    • Helps ease the symptoms of arthritis

What kind of bananas should I use?

If you're from the Philippines, the Cavendish banana, is widely used in various culinary applications due to its sweet flavor and creamy texture, making it an excellent choice for smoothies and smoothie bowls.

If you're in the US, any bananas from the store will do. Just make sure they're ripe, and if you can, go for frozen bananas for the best smoothie!

    Top Tip

Use frozen pineapple and bananas for the best consistency!

    Variations

    • Tropical Twist: Add mango chunks or pineapple juice for an extra tropical flavor boost.
    • Berry Blast: Mix in some strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries for added sweetness and antioxidants.
    • Green Goodness: Incorporate spinach or kale leaves for a nutrient-packed green smoothie bowl.
    • Creamy Coconut: Blend in coconut milk or coconut yogurt for a creamy and indulgent texture.
    • Protein Power: Add a scoop of protein powder or Greek yogurt for extra protein to keep you full longer. And make it plant based by using dairy free products.
    • Nutty Crunch: Top your smoothie bowl with chopped nuts like almonds, granola, or toasted coconut flakes for added crunch and texture.
    • Chocolate Drizzle: Drizzle melted dark chocolate or cocoa powder over the top for a decadent touch.
    • Spice it Up: Add a pinch of cinnamon or ginger for a warm and spicy flavor kick.
    • Citrus Zing: Squeeze in some fresh lime or orange juice for a refreshing citrus twist.
    • Chia Seed Pudding: Serve your smoothie bowl over a layer of chia seed pudding for added fiber and texture.
      • Or simply garnish with chia seeds right before eating.
    • Garnish with pineapple chunks, hemp seeds, pumpkin seeds.

    Substitutions

    • Coconut Water: Swap out the liquid base with coconut water for a lighter and more refreshing smoothie bowl.
    • Almond Milk: Use almond milk instead of coconut milk or yogurt for a dairy-free option with a nutty flavor.
    • Honey or Maple Syrup: Substitute honey or maple syrup for sweetness if you don't have ripe bananas.
    • You're welcome to skip any garnishes, but feel free to add any that you enjoy.

    Storage

    • Fresh is best, but if you need to store it, refrigerate for up to 2 hours or freeze for longer. When ready to eat, re-blend for the best taste.

    FAQs

Do bananas have to be frozen for smoothie bowls?

You don't have to freeze bananas for smoothie bowls, but using frozen ones makes the smoothie thicker and creamier, like soft-serve ice cream. If you prefer a thinner smoothie or don't have frozen bananas, fresh ones work just fine!

What should you not mix pineapple with?

Avoid mixing pineapple with dairy products like milk or yogurt as it may cause digestive discomfort for some individuals due to the enzyme bromelain. Additionally, fresh pineapple should not be mixed with gelatin desserts as it can prevent them from setting properly.

How will I know that the pineapple I buy is ripe and sweet?

To find a sweet and ripe pineapple, choose one with yellow skin, give it a gentle squeeze—if it feels a little soft and smells sweet at the bottom, it's ready to eat!

      5 stars
I added fresh rosemary and it certainly tasted very different, not sure if I would include it in the future. But the smoothie bowl tasted so good.
