This Nutella Mug Cake just takes a few ingredients, pop it in the microwave, and you've got a delicious dessert and requires no baking powder required.

This was inspired by my other mug cake recipes on this site like Microwave S’more Fudge Mug Cake, and Chocolate Mug Cake with Protein. You can pair this well with Easy Dalgona Coffee.

    Substitutions

    • Milk or Water: Use interchangeably in recipes.
    • Hazelnut Crunch: Sprinkle chopped hazelnuts.
    • Cocoa Powder or Chocolate Flavor: Swap for chocolate flavoring.

    Variations

    • Add chocolate chips and bananas to the batter.
    • Use peanut butter instead of Nutella.
    • Top with fresh berries like raspberries or strawberries.

    Equipment

    • Large microwave-safe mug
    • Measuring spoons
    • Mixing spoon

    Storage

If you somehow find yourself with leftover Nutella Mug Cake (which is rare!), you can store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two days. Just be sure to reheat it in the microwave before enjoying it again.

    Top Tip

For a gooey center, slightly undercook your Nutella Mug Cake and top it with vanilla ice cream.

    FAQ

Can I substitute water for milk in mug cake?

Yes, you can substitute water for milk in mug cake, but it may result in a slightly different texture and taste.

Is cake better with milk or water?

The cake is typically better with milk, as it adds richness and moisture to the final result.

Why is my mug cake rubbery?

A rubbery mug cake may occur if it's overcooked or if the proportions of ingredients are not balanced properly. Try adjusting the cooking time or ingredient ratios for better results.

I actually halved the egg and found that I liked that better than adding the whole egg. I cooked the other half for breakfast the next day
