- Swap the red sanding sugar for sprinkles in your favorite color.
- Use dark chocolate instead of white chocolate for a richer look and flavor.
Variations
- Chocolate Teddy Bear Cookies: Add 1–2 tablespoons of cocoa powder to your sugar cookie dough for a chocolatey twist. Use white sugar instead of red sanding sugar.
- Gluten-Free and Vegan Alternatives: Opt for a gluten-free flour blend and vegan butter to cater to dietary preferences.

Storage
- Store your cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
- For longer storage, put the baked cookies (undecorated) in the fridge or freezer for up to three months.

Making sugar cookies is a fun and easy process! Start by creaming softened unsalted butter with brown sugar, creating a smooth and rich mixture. The addition of a single egg and fragrant vanilla extract brings the wet ingredients together, while a separate bowl holds the dry ingredients—flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt—waiting to be sifted and stirred in gently.
Chill the dough in the fridge until firm. Then, roll it out on a floured surface using a rolling pin. Cut out shapes with cookie cutters or a knife, and place them on baking sheets lined with parchment paper. Bake in a preheated oven until golden around the edges.
Once the cookies come out of the oven, let them cool on a wire rack while that warm, buttery smell fills the air. You can leave some plain to keep it simple, or get creative and decorate them with colorful frosting, sprinkles, or M&M!
