    Substitutions & Variations

    • Ingredient Swap
Replace all-purpose flour with rice flour.
    • Variation
If you like spicy, toss in some chili flakes.
    • Mistake to Avoid
Don't cook too many pieces in the same batches! It will make the fritters soggy.

    Storage Tip

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge and eat within 2–3 days. Reheat in an oven or an air fryer to try to make it crispy again.

    FAQs

Why is my batter not sticking to the string beans?

It might be the beans. If they're wet, the batter won't stick. Dry the string beans well before coating. IT also works for fresh green beans.

Can I make this dish in advance?

Yes, you can. But it's best served fresh from the skillet. Just prepare the ingredients ahead of time and fry them when you want them. You can also try dipping the beans in a little egg before you batter them. It helps the batter cling better.

Can I make this recipe without deep-frying?

Yes! This dish is good to make either way. But if you shallow fry it, expect the texture to be a little different.

How do I know if the oil is ready?

Test it a little. Drop a bit of batter into some inches of oil. If it sizzles immediately, it's ready.

Can I add other ingredients to this dish?

Yes, of course! Mix in some small slices of mushrooms, chicken, or potatoes. This will turn it into a more filling green beans recipe!

    Notes

    • Keep the batter light. If it feels too thick, add 1 to 2 tablespoons of water until it flows easily from a spoon.
    • Make sure the string beans are dry before mixing to keep them crispy.
    • Drop a small amount of batter into the oil to test it. If the oil quickly sizzles, it's ready for frying.
    • Maintain medium heat. Oil that is too hot will brown the outside too fast while leaving the inside undercooked.
    • For extra crunch, let fritters rest for 1 minute after frying, then refry for 30 seconds.
