    Substitutions

    • The best part about this recipe is how versatile it is! You can easily swap out the orange candy melts and green M&Ms for other colors depending on the occasion. For Christmas, try red and green candy melts. For Valentine’s Day, use pink and white. The possibilities are endless!
    • Subsititute candy melts with your favorite chocolate such as dark chocolate or white chocolate chips to make dark or white chocolate pretzels.

    Variations

    • Top your chocolate-covered pretzels with crushed nuts, shredded coconut, or crushed peppermint/candy cane, and use a fork to drizzle extra melted chocolate or white chocolate for added decoration and flavor.

    Storage

    • Store the melted chocolate-covered pretzels in an airtight container at room temperature or cellophane bags for gifts. They’ll stay fresh for up to one week.
    • To extend the life of your pretzels, you can freeze them. Place them in a single layer on a baking sheet, freeze for a couple of hours, and then transfer them to a freezer-safe bag or container. They’ll keep in the freezer for up to 3 months. Just thaw them at room temperature before serving.

    Top Tips

    • Give the pretzel pumpkins time to harden so the M and M's would really stick to the pretzel.
    • Make sure to use high-quality candy melts for a smooth, even coating on your pretzels. Cheaper brands may clump or not melt properly, which can make dipping more difficult.
    • If you love to add edible food glitters or sprinkles to this no-bake pretzel pumpkins, you can. It would give it a chic look yet still delicious!

    FAQ

How far in advance can chocolate-covered pretzels be made?

You can make chocolate-covered pretzels up to two weeks in advance if stored in an airtight container. Just keep them in a cool, dry place.

Why are my chocolate-covered pretzels not hardening?

The chocolate may not harden if it's too warm or if moisture got into it. Try refrigerating the pretzels for 10-15 minutes to help them set faster.

What is the best way to dip pretzel rods in chocolate?

Hold the pretzel rod by one end and dip it into melted chocolate, using a spoon to help coat it evenly. Gently shake off any excess chocolate before placing it on a lined baking sheet to harden.
