    Substitutions & Variations

    • Ingredient Swap
Swap almonds for walnuts or pecans, if you have those instead.
    • Variation
For a slightly deeper sweetness, use maple syrup instead of agave syrup.
    • Mistake to Avoid
In slicing the apples, don't make it too thin or bake them too long. Both can make it quickly become overly mushy and soft.
    • Storage Tips
      • Store leftover baked apples in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3–4 days.
      • They can be frozen for up to 2 months, although the apples will become softer after thawing. Reheat them gently in the microwave or oven before serving.

    FAQs

Do I need to peel the apples?

Yes, in this recipe, you will need to peel them. It's to make sure the dish will turn out soft. But if you'd like more fiber and texture, you can leave the peel on.

Can I make this recipe ahead of time?

Of course! You can bake them ahead and store it in the fridge for 3-4 days.

What are the best apples to use in this recipe?

The best apples are Granny Smith apples. They are tart and firm. But if you like sweeter ones, you can try Gala, Fuji, Pink Lady, or Honeycrisp.
