What is the Worst Chocolate Chip Cookies?

The Worst Chocolate Chip Cookies is a cheeky name for what might become your new favorite cookie recipe! It combines rich butter, sweet white and brown sugars, and lots of chocolate chips to create that perfect soft-in-the-middle, crispy-on-the-edges bite.

There’s no fancy chilling or browning butter required—just mix, scoop, and bake! These cookies are perfect for everyday treats, holiday baking, or as a fun weekend bake with kids.

    Substitutions

    • Butter – Use coconut oil or vegan butter for a dairy-free version
    • White sugar – Swap with coconut sugar or monk fruit sweetener
    • Brown sugar – Use more white sugar or maple syrup (adjust flour if using liquid)
    • Vanilla extract – Almond extract or maple extract works well
    • Chocolate chips – Use dark chocolate, milk chocolate, or even carob chocolate chips

    Variations

    • Cornstarch cookies – Add 1 tablespoon cornstarch to the flour mixture for extra soft cookies
    • Extra chewy – Slightly underbake and cool on hot cookie sheets for chewier texture
    • Nutty – Fold in chopped walnuts or pecans
    • Double chocolate – Add cocoa powder for more chocolate flavor
    • Holiday style – Stir in crushed peppermint or M&Ms
baked cookies taken out of the oven

    Storage

    • Countertop – Store in an airtight container for up to 4 days
    • Fridge – Keeps well for 1 week, reheat to enjoy warm
    • Freezer – Freeze dough balls for up to 2 months; bake directly from frozen

    Top Tips

    • Always sift all the dry ingredients before starting the mixing process. It will prevent lumps in your cookies.
    • Adjust your cooking time depending on the size of your cookies. Smaller cookies tend to bake faster.

    FAQ

Why do I need to mix baking soda with hot water?

This helps evenly distribute the baking soda, giving you better rise and texture.

Can I use just white sugar for this cookie recipe?

If you don't have brown sugar available, you can use white sugar. It's just that brown sugar has a more rich sweetness when used in baking cookies that's why I used both white and brown sugar for this recipe.

Can I double this cookie recipe if I need a bigger batch?

Yes, for sure. Just double or triple the ingredients listed.
