What Kind of Mango Should I Use?

Both Ataulfo and Philippine mangoes are excellent choices, but any ripe mango will do. Use what you have on hand.

What Kind of Banana Should I Use?

If you're in Asia, particularly in the Philippines, consider using Lakatan bananas. They offer just the right balance of sweetness, slight tanginess, and a creamy texture. In the US, standard bananas available at grocery stores are sufficient.

    Health Benefits of Bananas

    • Great source of manganese which is good for the skin
    • Has a good content of potassium good for regulating blood pressure
    • Bananas are good for the heart health
    • Aids in digestion and some gastrointestinal illness
    • Great source of energy

    Top Tips

    • Add a frozen banana and/or frozen mangoes for extra creaminess in your smoothie.
    • When you're blending, put the hardest stuff near the blade. If you're using ice cubes, they're the toughest, so make sure they're at the bottom, close to the blade.

    Variations

    • Creamy Coconut: Blend in coconut milk for a creamy, tropical twist.
    • Creamy Oatmeal: Blend in cooked oats for a thicker, more satisfying smoothie.
    • Yogurt: Add regular or plant-based yogurt to add more creaminess and protein

    Substitutions

    • Liquid Base:
      • Almond Milk: For a nutty flavor and creaminess.
      • Coconut Water: For a refreshing, tropical taste.
      • Orange Juice: For a citrusy kick and added sweetness.
    • Sweeteners:
      • Honey or Agave: For natural sweetness.
      • Maple Syrup: For a rich, caramel-like flavor.
      • Medjool Dates: For natural sweetness and added fiber.
    • Extras:
      • Spinach or Kale: For added greens and nutrients.
      • Chia Seeds: For fiber, omega-3s, and thickening.
      • Favorite Protein Powder: For an extra protein boost.

    Storage

    • Prepared Smoothie: If you have leftover smoothie, transfer it to an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator. Smoothies are best consumed fresh but can be stored for up to 24 hours. Shake or stir before drinking as separation may occur.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Are mango and banana a good combination?

Mango and banana can indeed be a delicious combination! Both fruits have their own distinct flavors, but they also complement each other well. The sweetness of ripe mangoes pairs nicely with the creamy texture and slightly tangy taste of bananas. Whether in a fruit salad, smoothie, or dessert, combining mango and banana can create a delightful flavor profile that many people enjoy. Plus, both fruits offer a range of vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber, making them a nutritious choice when eaten together.

Is it good to put milk in fruit smoothies?

Texture and Creaminess: Milk, especially dairy milk or alternatives like almond milk or coconut milk, can add creaminess to smoothies, making them smoother and more enjoyable to drink.
Nutritional Boost: Milk adds protein, calcium, and other nutrients to the smoothie, making it more filling and potentially more balanced in terms of macronutrients.
Taste: The taste of milk can complement certain fruits, adding a subtle creaminess that enhances the overall flavor of the smoothie.
Dietary Restrictions: Some people may be lactose intolerant or have dairy allergies, in which case they can opt for dairy-free milk alternatives.
Caloric Considerations: Milk adds calories to the smoothie, so if you're watching your calorie intake, you may want to consider lower-calorie alternatives like water or coconut water.
