    What is Jackfruit Smoothie?

A jackfruit smoothie is a creamy, tropical drink made with ripe jackfruit, blended with milk or dairy-free alternatives, and sweeteners like honey or dates. It has a naturally sweet, fruity flavor with hints of mango, banana, and pineapple.

Jackfruit smoothies are popular in Vietnam, where jackfruit is widely grown. They are a refreshing way to enjoy this nutritious fruit, which is rich in fiber, vitamin C, and antioxidants.

Some variations include light coconut milk for extra creaminess or a touch of vanilla for added depth. You can also blend in coconut water, dry ice, or frozen fruit for a thicker, milkshake-like consistency.

    History of Jackfruit Smoothie

Jackfruit smoothies originated in Southeast Asia and South Asia, where jackfruit has been a staple for centuries. Traditionally, it was blended with full fat coconut milk or condensed milk in countries like India, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines.

As smoothies gained popularity in the late 20th century, jackfruit became a favorite for its naturally sweet, tropical flavor. Today, it’s enjoyed worldwide, often mixed with bananas, mangoes, or coconut milk for a creamy, refreshing tropical smoothie.

    Health Benefits of Jackfruit

    • Packed with Vitamin C and potassium
    • Rich in fiber to keep your gut healthy
    • A great source of protein
    • Moderate in calories to sustain energy naturally

    Health Benefits of Dates

    • Great source of antioxidants
    • High in fiber content
    • Low in added sugar
    • Aids in better memory
    • Good source of calcium and potassium

    Substitutions

    • Dates - Maple syrup, honey, agave syrup, or soaked raisins (for natural sweetness)
    • Ripe jackfruit - Mango, pineapple, or canned jackfruit in syrup (drained and rinsed)
    • Banana cuts - Avocado (for creaminess) or mango (for sweetness)
    • Soy milk - Coconut milk, almond milk, oat milk, or dairy milk
    Two glasses of langka smoothie

    Recipe Variations

    • Creamy Coconut Jackfruit Smoothie - Swap soy milk for coconut milk and add ½ cup shredded coconut for extra richness. Sweeten with maple syrup or honey if needed.
    • Spiced Jackfruit Smoothie - Mix in ½ tsp cinnamon, a pinch of nutmeg, and cashew or oat milk for warmth. Sweeten with dates or coconut sugar for a caramel-like taste.
    • Mango Jackfruit Smoothie - Blend ripe jackfruit with ½ cup mango for a bright tropical twist. Use coconut water or light coconut milk for a refreshing drink.

    Storage

Refrigerate: Store the smoothie in an airtight container or mason jar in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Shake or stir before drinking, as separation may occur.

Freeze: Pour into ice cube trays or freezer-safe containers and freeze for up to 1 month. Blend frozen cubes with free milk for a quick smoothie.

Prep Ahead: Store prepped ingredients (jackfruit, banana, and other fruits) in freezer bags. Blend when ready for an easy smoothie.

Hint: Freeze this smoothie to make Jackfruit Ice Cream!

    ⭐ Top Tip

    • Remove jackfruit seeds before freezing – Freezing jackfruit with seeds means extra prep later. Deseed before freezing so it’s ready to blend straight from the freezer!
    • Remove pits from dates before blending – Blending whole dates can damage your blender. Check for pits and soak firm dates in warm water for smoother blending.

    FAQ

    Can you freeze jackfruit smoothies?

Yes, definitely! You can eat them frozen or you can thaw and blend them again before serving.

Can I make a jackfruit smoothie the night before?

Yes you can. Just make sure to freeze and blend again before serving.

How do you make a jackfruit smoothie dairy-free?

Like what I used in this recipe, you can use soy milk or almond milk. It tastes equally delicious as dairy milk.
