What is Pumpkin Bread With Cinnamon Streusel Topping?

This easy pumpkin bread recipe is a classic fall favorite with a twist: a cinnamon streusel topping made from oats, pecans, and brown sugar.

The soft and tender pumpkin bread batter is flavored with cinnamon and sweetened with a mix of granulated and light brown sugar. It's the perfect thing to bake during pumpkin season, especially if you're looking for new recipes to try.

Just imagine the smell in your kitchen—warm spices, sweet pumpkin, and buttery crumb topping. Total autumn vibes!

While many people use pumpkin pie filling by accident, this recipe calls for pure pumpkin puree to control the sweetness and spices. You’ll love how simple this bake is—no mixer needed, just a few bowls and a loaf pan!

    Substitutions

    • pumpkin puree – sub with mashed sweet potatoes or butternut squash
    • milk – any room temperature plant-based milk like almond, oat, or soy milk
    • vegetable oil – try canola oil, coconut oil, melted butter, or applesauce
    • all-purpose flour – sub with whole wheat flour, a gluten-free blend, or spelt flour
    • pecans – swap with walnuts or skip for a nut-free version

    Variations

    • Extra Spiced – add ginger, cloves, or a dash of pumpkin pie spice
    • Walnut Streusel – swap pecans for walnuts in the topping
    • Chocolate Chip – mix ½ cup chocolate chips into the batter

    Storage & Leftovers

    • Countertop – wrap in plastic wrap or store in an airtight container for up to 3 days
    • Fridge – keeps well for up to a week
    • Freezer – wrap in aluminum foil, place in a freezer bag, and freeze up to 3 months
    • Sliced Freezing – pre-slice and wrap each slice in parchment paper before freezing for grab-and-go snacks

    FAQ

What are the active ingredients in pumpkin?

Pumpkin is rich in beta-carotene (vitamin A), fiber, potassium, and antioxidants, which support eye health, digestion, and the immune system.

Why does my pumpkin bread taste bland?

It may need more spices like cinnamon, ginger, or cloves. Using fresh, high-quality pumpkin puree and not overmixing the batter can also enhance the flavor.

    How to intensify pumpkin flavor?

Boost the flavor by adding extra pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, nutmeg, or a splash of vanilla. Roasting the pumpkin puree before using also deepens the taste.
